I watch a lot of True Crime tv shows on Discovery I.D. I've noticed that no matter what happens, the Victim of whatever crime gets nothing but nice things said about him/her. Ususally it's a woman or a small child. No one seems to care about men who die, unless a woman kills them. They always talk negatively about the person who did the evil act. I can understand why, they want us to hate the bad guy and feel bad for the damsel.
So, lets say that i end up on one of those shows. Lets say that i was married to a man, he was absolutely wonderful. I was happy as can be but he had a dark side. A secret. A whole new life. I notice things start to go wrong, but i am naive, i don't want to believe that the money that is slowly dwindling from my bank account is by his doing. Some nights he stays out late, or doesn't even come home at all. He disappears in the middle of the night and returns in the morning all dirty and tired. Perhaps he went out with his friends and got drunk? Then i get a call one day from a police officer and he says he's investigating my husband and asks me to come down to the station. The officer asks me about where he was the night of August 14th. I told him that he was out with his friends getting drunk. Then he pulls out pictures of women and he asks me if i've ever met them before. I recognize them, but i can't put my finger on it. He starts reading me their names and then it hits me. I've seen these women on TV before. They were all murdered by some serial killer by the name of the Sandstone Slayer. The officer tells me that they think my husband is a prime suspect. I am in complete denial, i don't want to believe it. My charming husband? No way Jose. Then it turns out that my husband totally is the Sandstone Slayer. Some TV company wants to come and interview me so my story can be told to the world. They interview me and my friends. They post pretty pictures of me and state all my lifes accomplishments. My friends say things like "She was so funny and loveable" "Her smiles were contagious" "I never met a girl that could make such an amazing pot of Chili!"
But lets say that i was some kind of bank robber, con artist. They would show awful pictures of me and people would say "When she smiled, my heart would stop for a second. I knew something was wrong with her." "She thought she was funny, but she totally wasn't" "SHE MADE THE WORST CHILI I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE"
That's how it'd be.
