First off, here's a video of Ethan dancing.

I'm about to get all sentimental about Ethan.

Now, if you've read this blog before, are friends with me on Facebook, or had a conversation with me for 10 minutes you'll know about Ethan. He is my cousin Lynette's son. We're very, very close my sisters and i call him our nephew. He is ten months old, and the love of my life, the apple of my eye. He has blessed our lives in more ways than one. Without him, i don't know what we'd do. I don't think that Lynette and i would have connected the way we have. I definitely would not have gone to Generose if it wasn't for Ethan. He's only 10 months old and he's already changed our lives.

On Tuesday Lynette and Ethan took a bath together. When they were getting out, and Lynette was drying off E, he tensed up, his eyes kinda rolled and he started twitching. It only lasted about 4 seconds. Lynette was a little worried but kinda shrugged it off, till he did it again a few minutes later. She took him to the hospital, Amber and Julie followed. Julie had just gotten out of the dentist, she got her teeth filed and they look GREAT!!! Any way, when they got to the hospital, they told the receptionist at the desk what had happened. She said "Maybe he was cold, or perhaps he just peed." If i was there i would have punched that lady in the face, knowing what i know now about what may be wrong with him.

They talked to the doctor and they were told Ethan had just had a seizure. It was very scary, but they came back to our house afterwards. When i got out of the shower, they were there and told me what had happened, and as they told me Ethan was having seizures he just sat there and smiled at me, it made me cry.

Our day then went on as normal. He made his 'face' a few times, where he tenses up and makes a funny face, we thought nothing of it. We made some lunch then went up to Doreen's to visit with her. It was a lot of fun.

Wednesday morning rolled around. Julie was babysitting Ethan while Lynette went into her doctor's appointment. He took a nap and we hung out for a while. When his lunch time came around he had two seizures. Each only lasting about 4 seconds. We took note of it as we were told to do. After that we went next door to help Amber unpack a little. Ethan and i were hanging out in the living room playing with blocks. I had never seen E's face when he seized until then. He was looking right at me when he had another one for about 10 seconds. His eyes went funny directions and he twitched. It freaked me out. After that Lynette decided that it would be a good idea to bring him into Donna's house. Donna is Cliff's mom. She was a nurse and an EMT so she would know what to do. While E was there he had 5 seizures. I got a call from Lynette saying that once Cliff got off work they were going to take him up to Duluth, the best pediatric ER in the area. Amber, Julie and I knew we had to go up there. There was no way in hell i was going to sit at home and wait for texts giving me updates. I would have probably had an anxiety attack. We packed our bags, just in case we had to spend the night, ate dinner and headed out. We arrived at the ER at around 7.

It took a while for him to be seen by a doctor, it was ten before we knew anything. At 9 Lynette came out and gave us an update that the Doctor had come in and said that if he has a seizure while he is there he will have to stay the night, that he was going to get a scan of his brain and a seizure medication that could only be given by IV.

The Lobby was busy, it was ridiculous. The people in there were annoying, there were two whorey ladies running around, about the same age as julie, if not younger. Neither of them could drive.

Lynette went back in and came out about an hour later saying they could not get the IV started, that Ethan was in a lot of pain and that she couldn't watch that any more, i don't blame her. I'd have a hard time too. Her and i went out and smoked, then came back in. I decided that i would go back and take Lynette's place while the IV team came to get him an IV. They had tried E's hands before, which pissed me off, he's at the age now that he will rip them out. Anyway, when we got there Ethan had left and got his scan, he was asleep during it, so there was no need to sedate him. Once Ethan came back and Lynette saw him she left so she didn't have to see him get the IV.

We waited about 20 minutes for the IV team to get there, we sat and watched Jurassic park while Ethan slept in Donna's arms. When the man finally came with the IV business, we put Ethan on the table. Donna held him down, cliff had Ethan's legs and i was up by his head talking in his ear letting him know he was ok. I've never seen a baby in so much pain. It wasn't easy to watch, but i didn't cry. I couldn't imagine what it must have been like for lynette. I wiped away Ethan's tears and once it was in, i went to get Lynette so she could see her son. As much as i wanted to stay there and comfort him, i knew that he needed his mom. The CT scan came back normal, the 'face' he does that we all laughed at and thought was cute turns out it's seizures. He goes in tomorrow to have a full scan of his brain.

After that we waited about an hour for him to get the medication and discharged. it was 1:30 AM when we finally left. They wouldn't let me have a wheel chair to walk all the way across the hospital. I was pissed.

We got lost on our way out. I dunno how. Maybe we're just stupid. But we found out how to get back to the interstate. When we got back to Cliff and Lynette's Ethan was on the floor happy as can be, dancing away to some Lady Gaga. we had Pizza, i yelled at the TV because of Law and Order. I really don't think shows about murder should involve children. At about 4 everyone started to get tired and fall asleep. I fell asleep around 5. Amber snores like a beast.

I had fallen on tuesday, pretty hard. I twisted my ankle and landed on my bad leg, so i was in a lot of pain, then there was the ride to and from Duluth, then there was all that walking i had to do, i was in a LOT of pain. Amber said i was crying in my sleep. I'm not surprised. When we woke up, Ethan had another seizure, but we went and got his medicine and so far he hasn't had another. Now we're all home, i'm naked and i can't wait to go to sleep.

I really love Ethan, it's been a really hard 2 days for all of us. It isn't easy watch someone you love, especially a baby have seizures and be in pain. I can't imagine how it must feel for Cliff and Lynette.

Oh, and i didn't freak out once. Not one single time.

  1. Ok, I'm all pissed. I had a nice long comment written, and then Blogger ate it. Blogger is the devil.

Anyway, I know that we did the right thing by going up to Duluth. I'm so proud of you for being there for Ethan and all of the walking despite your pain. Ethan has so many people that love him and it really is amazing how much of a positive impact he has on all of us. I love him so much.

I've been trying to write a blog entry, but every time I do, I cry and can't write. I don't know if I'm going to be able to blog about this anytime soon.
